POSITION OVERVIEW
The Development Associate reports to the Director of Advancement and is a key member of the Advancement team at Loyola High School Detroit. The Development Associate is responsible for managing a wide-variety of activities to support fund development within the organization. Specific areas of responsibility include managing all aspects of the grant and foundation solicitation program including researching, identifying, soliciting, securing and performing requisite reporting with granting organizations to secure funds in support of Loyola. The role also includes managing and maintaining the grant tracking and database system as well.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
GRANTS
Act as project lead for grant cycle, beginning as the main driver for grants, reports and proposals, gathering key data, partnering with functional teams, writing grant narratives and ensuring on-time submittal as well as applicable impact reports
Conduct research on potential funding sources such as corporate, family and charitable foundations
Maintain grant database and files, including calendaring deadlines, logging grants activities and communications
Ability to develop compelling and persuasive narratives within grant applications tailored to particular areas of interest of various potential Foundation partners
Research, collect and include, as appropriate, relevant and supportive statistical data points within grant submissions to strengthen the case for support our mission
Establish and maintain relationships with foundation contacts and program officers
Be acclimated with the process of securing funding through state and federal support, including but not limited to the economic relief resources available for educational institutions
Develop an annual grants strategy
Work closely with staff to track stated outcomes, statistics and reporting requirements related to grant funding
Serve the Advancement team as the resource familiar with best practices in grant making and legal compliance
Responsible for providing regular updates on overall grant program progress and results to the Advancement team, the Development Committee and other stakeholders as necessary
General Fund Development Support
Develop a detailed understanding of Loyola’s history, mission and programs to be an effective advocate/spokesperson for the organization to increase support from the community
Be an engaging writer who can be a thought partner with the Advancement team in brainstorming innovative approaches to both potential and current supporters to help grow our institutional fundraising efforts
Support all fundraising activities of Loyola including grants, special events and other general fundraising programs
Assist with maintenance of donor files, reports and document retention for Fund Development activities
Collaborates With: Entire faculty, staff, supporters and key grant and foundation stakeholders
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Excellent written and verbal communication skills including: writing, proofreading and ability to clearly communicate information effectively and persuasively
Ability to develop timelines and meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail
Excellent personal demeanor with the ability to maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally including donors, supporters and grant and foundation contacts and program officers
Excellent organizational skills including meeting grant submissions, renewals and reporting requirements
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose and accuracy
Be familiar and enthusiastic when speaking to the history and the mission of Loyola High School Detroit and the school’s various funding priorities
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform this position’s duties such as:
Bachelor’s Degree
Two to Five years of related experience in development, fundraising and grant writing.
Excellent research, organizational and communications skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
