Overview

The director of human resources leads and oversees OMC’s comprehensive HR functions including recruitment, employee and labor relations, compensation, benefits, HRIS, staff development, employee health, and medical staff credentialing and addresses complex personnel challenges.

This role reports to our Chief Financial Officer.


Responsibilities

  • Establishing Human Resources department goals and initiatives.

  • Supporting OMC’s operational and strategic objectives.

  • Developing and maintaining OMC’s human resource policies.

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable law and regulations.

  • Providing guidance and training to leadership staff on employment issues.

  • Leading OMC’s labor relations function.

  • Preparing and managing the Human Resources department’s annual budget.

  • Managing the executive and clinician compensation programs.

  • Supporting and supervising direct reports.

  • Ensuring that the staff and clinician recruitment processes successfully attract and retain qualified staff.

  • Supporting the staff and leadership development program.

  • Providing oversight and input into the staff compensation function.

  • Supporting employee relations activities in support of a positive work environment.

  • Supporting the credentialing process in partnership with the Chief Medical Officer.

  • Ensures deployment of an effective orientation and onboarding program.

  • Supports HRIS administration, ensuring effective utilization of HR technology systems.

  • Oversees and supports the operations of OMC’s welfare and retirement benefit programs.

  • Partners with the Occupational Medicine Department to provide employee health services.


Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business, Human Resources, or Organizational Development required; a related master’s degree preferred.

  • Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resource Management within a healthcare environment with exposure to staff, physician and executive compensation, benefits, labor relations, recruiting, and performance management.

  • Knowledgeable of current and applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills including the ability to make effective group presentations.

  • The ability to maintain effective working relationships with board members, medical staff, management staff, and employees throughout the organization.

OMC History

Founded in 1949 by Dr. Harold Wente in downtown Rochester, Olmsted Medical Center started as a solo medical practice. In 1955, the establishment expanded with the inauguration of Olmsted Community Hospital. This hospital, originally county-affiliated, underwent a significant transformation in 1996 when it joined forces with Olmsted Medical Center, leading to its current designation as Olmsted Medical Center—Hospital.

What OMC Does

With 267 clinicians and 1,428 staff, OMC provides healthcare services at 22 locations:

  • Multi-specialty outpatient clinics in northwestern and southeastern Rochester

  • Walk-in FastCare® and Acute Care clinics

  • Physical/occupational therapy/sports medicine and athletic performance facility

  • A Level IV trauma hospital licensed for 61 beds with a 24-hour emergency department as well as a Women’s Health Pavilion offering services including diagnostic radiology/mammography, plastic surgery, gynecology services, urogynecology, perinatology, and birthing services in our BirthCenter

  • Primary care branch clinics in 11 southeastern Minnesota communities (Byron, Cannon Falls, Chatfield, Lake City, Pine Island, Plainview, Preston, Spring Valley, St. Charles, Stewartville, and Wanamingo)
